At Casa Pardal, history is more than just a background. The story of this village begins all the way back to 1282. It’s original name, La Fortesa, reflects its roots as a fortified hamlet, once protected by it’s local lord. Over the centuries, life here has flowed, by 1685 there were up to nine houses, and by 1860, eight remained, each with its own quiet history.
Our dear neighbor, Josep, who holds a deep connection to this land, has shared many stories with us. He tells us that nearly a hundred people once called this place home, most of them working the surrounding fields, from harvesting weat and corn but also producing and processing home-made wine in their cellars. His mother was born in the very house we live in today. His family has lovingly cared for these homes for generations—inside and out.
But as he says with a gentle smile, that this kind of life doesn’t quite call to the younger generations in the same way anymore.
Two minutes away from our house, there is a space where the cleaning was made for all the villages surrounded by vegetable gardens. this place was a meeting point for the people living here, through shared stories, singing and dancing.
Still, the village remains a place of quiet beauty and deep heritage. Wondering its paths, you’ll find remnants of the 17th to 19th centuries beautifully preserved—stone wells, graceful arcades, covered walkways, and weathered walls that still bear the marks of many hands and hearts that lived and worked here.
Throughout the region, there are other small fortified villages like this one—each a peaceful reminder of the past, standing still in time.
At Casa Pardal, this history is more than just background—it’s a source of inspiration. We see a deep connection between these old villages and our dream of a shared, intentional way of living. By inviting people to come together under one roof—to share stories, meals, and meaningful moments, we hope to carry forward the spirit of community that has always lived here.
